Relationship Playbook Series: Fans & Cheerleaders
Aloha! “Have you ever struggled in your relationships? perhaps you’ve been let down by people you thought you could rely on, or been blindsided by someone who betrayed your trust. A wise man once said, “Life moves at the speed of relationships.” Having the right relationships positioned in the right way in our lives allows us to receive right counsel, make right decisions, and live with right expectations. In our new
sermon series we will be looking at the importance and role of the relationships in our lives, so that we can navigate life with strength and fulfill our calling in Christ, We’re glad to have you with us, as we dig into the Relationship Playbook!” – Pastor Trenton Johnson
Big Idea: Some people are for you but not with you.
Appreciate them, but limit their influence.
Matthew 21:1-11
Mark 15:6-15
Thought 1: Fans are important…in the right place.
Matthew 21:10-11 – 10 And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?” 11 And the crowds said, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.”
Romans 16:18 – For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.
Thought 2: Fans can encourage my mission, or derail it.
Positioning Our Fans:
- Be humble and appreciative – never demanding or entitled
- Be kind – but don’t fall apart when they leave
- Give the game your best – whether or not they are with you
- Don’t let them get in your head
John 15:9 – As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love.
“Talent is God-given: be humble. Fame is man-given: be thankful. Conceit is self-given: be careful.” – Coach John Wooden
